Data from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism indicates that alcohol consumption by Americans 21 and over [has increased](https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2024/01/03/10-facts-about-americans-and-alcohol-as-dry-january-begins/), averaging 2.83 gallons of pure alcohol per capita in 2021. This is equivalent to around 603 standard drinks per person for the year.
